IoT Computers Components Computers Electro Optic & Camera Packaging & Production Motion Automotive New Products IDS Imaging Development Systems has introduced the Nion, a new industrial Time of Flight (ToF) camera designed to deliver high resolution depth data in fast moving and variable lighting environments. The camera features a 1.2 megapixel depth sensor with integrated onboard processing, enabling stable 3D data acquisition at 30 frames per second. This makes it well suited for real world industrial applications such as logistics, robotics and automation, where reliable depth information is required at production speed. One of Nion’s key advantages is its ability to capture moving objects with virtually no motion blur, maintaining depth accuracy even under rapidly changing lighting conditions. This is particularly relevant for dynamic processes such as sorting, volume measurement and palletising. The system operates within a measurement range of 0.3 to 7.5 metres, covering typical industrial scenarios. High resistance to ambient and stray light allows for consistent measurement results both indoors and outdoors. Nion is housed in an IP67 rated enclosure for use in demanding environments and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), simplifying installation and reducing cabling requirements. At the core of the system is the AR0130 depth sensor from onsemi, which delivers improved resolution, lower noise and enhanced stability in ambient light compared to conventional ToF solutions. This enables accurate depth sensing even when objects are in motion. According to Patrick Schick, Product Manager for 3D Vision at IDS, the system is designed to provide stable and reliable depth data as a foundation for automated processes that depend on fast and precise 3D information. Beyond new deployments, IDS highlights that Nion can also complement existing 2D vision systems, allowing manufacturers to introduce depth data only where it adds value to decision making. The compact SO8-EP package is optimized for small fan applications such as cooling fans, ceiling fans, and automotive seat ventilation, while also covering small motors, actuators, pumps, and related systems. A wide supply voltage range of 6 V to 26 V and an operating temperature range of −40 °C to 125 °C, with junction temperatures up to 150 °C, further ease system integration. The MLX80339 supports legacy PWM-based fan control for straightforward drop-in replacement, while also offering digital interfaces such as UART and I²C for customers who require additional diagnostics or multi-fan coordination. This allows designers to adopt more advanced control concepts where needed without sacrificing simplicity for mainstream designs. “With the MLX80339, we are making three-phase fan control accessible far beyond traditional expert users,” said Marc Lambrechts, Product Line Director at Melexis. “The combination of pre-validated motor control logic, fast code-free setup, and high-quality performance enables engineers to move quickly while delivering cost effective, quieter, and more efficient end products. This is a key step in expanding more sophisticated motor control to much broader markets.” By comprehensively removing system complexity, the MLX80339 also enables access through new distribution channels and supports lower-volume projects that were previously impractical with three-phase embedded motor drivers.
